Chapter Nine

“Eomma please..” Taehyung requested for the nth time to his mother who was just sitting  quietly facing the other side. “Taehyung don’t pester her.” Na-young said. Taehyung ignored her words and took a morsel in his hand, forwarding it to his mother’s mouth.

Sumin didn’t open her mouth purposefully, Taehyung looked at his mother dejectedly, “Eomma why?” he asked, eyes brimming with tears seeing his mother giving no response to him.

“Eunji, ask him to leave me alone.” Sumin asked Eunji who was lying on the sofa, She looked at her shocked and then at the alpha who was still looking sadly at his mother.

“Eat something please, you haven’t eaten since last noon, you have to take medicine as well.” Jungkook chimed in between, leaning against the wall.

Sumin just glared at him and he just shut his mouth, “Eomma, he is right. Why are you not eating? Are you angry?” Taehyung asked, desperation was clear in his voice.

Sumin finally looked at his son, and nodded her head, Taehyung licked his lips and kept the morsel back on the plate and held her hand.

“Why? Tell me. I will do anything you will say, I promise.” Taehyung said hurriedly, Sumin looked at his face and mumbled softly.

“Anything I want?” she asked, and Taehyung was quick to nod his head. “Okay..” she said and opened her mouth.

Taehyung took the plate and again started feeding her, a smile was playing on his face, and to be honest Jungkook wanted to roll his eyes, all this drama uff.

After finishing the food, Taehyung gave the utensils to Eunji, who stood up and went to the kitchen to keep them for wash.

“Now say, what do you want?” he asked, sitting by his feet keeping both palms on her knees.

She held his hand, “I want you to agree to the marriage with Hana.” she asked, there was a pin drop silence in the living room.

Taehyung gulped nervously and chuckled a little, “But eomma, the engagement is still happening, isn’t it?” he asked, Sumin nodded her head.

“Then?” he asked, “But you are not happy, you aren’t giving a chance to know her, you didn’t court her, do you think the head alpha wouldn’t notice this? Do you think Hana wouldn’t feel the detachment you have towards her?” she asked, and Taehyung just stared at her.

“So you do know I am not happy, eomma, I am getting engaged and will get married eventually as you guys decide, why does it matter if I am happy or not? I can’t do more than that eomma.” Taehyung said and stood up,

“Give her medicines.” he said to no one in particular and went outside the house, Jungkook looked at his retreating back and then at the people inside and quietly decided to follow him.

He crossed the front yard and saw Taehyung closing the wooden door, “Hyung!!” he yelled, increasing his pace to reach him.

Taehyung looked up confused and sighed, “What are you doing here Jungkook?” he asked, furrowing his brows.

Jungkook looked up and realised the weather is not that favorable, gray clouds were all over the sky hiding the sun behind them.

“Jungkook..” Taehyung asked again, “Oh! Where are you going?” he asked, Taehyung rubbed his forehead in exasperation, “Jungkook, not now please, I want to stay alone for some time.” Taehyung said and turned around to go.

Jungkook bit his lips, thinking to lighten up his mood. Why? Don’t ask him.

“But you asked me to take you along if I am going somewhere next time. Remember?” Jungkook asked, standing in front of Taehyung.

Taehyung's face was void of any emotions, Jungkook pursed his lips and held his hand up in mock surrender, “Fine, I will go alone. It’s not like the place will be too shady, so what if it was tugs usual place, I will be fine.” Jungkook said and started walking away.

He smiled hearing the footsteps behind him, “Fine, I am coming.” Taehyung said and came in step by step to him.

Jungkook smiled brightly at him, Taehyung breath stuck in his throat seeing the two bunny teeth peeking out, Jungkook eyes were beautiful. In fact it's the most beautiful pair of eyes Taehyung has ever seen.

He came out of his thoughts when Jungkook snapped his finger in front of him, Jungkook raised his brows at him but Taehyung just shook his head.

“Why do you go to such a place anyway?” Taehyung asked, genuinely concerned. Jungkook shrugged his shoulders, “There’s no safe place to meet him.” Jungkook said, “And he doesn’t live here so I don’t want to miss any meeting with him.” Jungkook informed him.

“But why did you meet him… secretly? I mean, you said he is your friend, so?” Taehyung asked, they crossed the crops fields and were on the kuchha road now.

“Yes, he is my friend, but—it’s a long story hyung, will tell you some other time.” Jungkook's voice carried a kind of guilt which Taehyung noticed but decided to not force him. He nodded his head but then another question popped in his head.

“But why does he lend you books and all, I mean you can get them from the pack library, no?” he asked, Jungkook nodded his head, “You are right, but Hobi hyung is in 12th, and he is in Seoul Science High School, so he lends me his school books and notes.” he replied.

Taehyung was astonished, he really was amazed by his dedication, but.. “Then why didn’t you take admission in the school as well? It will be easier for you, don’t you think?” Taehyung asked and Jungkook laughed.

“Why are you laughing,” Taehyung asked, offended, Jungkook chuckled, “you are so unaware of the things around you, hyung.” he said, seeing Taehyung confused, he decided to end his misery.

“Hyung, here, omega don’t get to study. They are denied many basic things an alpha doesn’t even have to ask for. Like education.” Jungkook said, turning to look at Taehyung whose eyes widened.

“But you are a man, Jungkook.”

“Still an omega, doesn’t matter male or female.” Jungkook stated, “We are here..” Jungkook said, stopping outside a public library.

“Its—Its a library. But you said..” Taehyung looked at Jungkook confused, Jungkook chuckled, “I am sorry, I tricked you. But I didn’t want to come here alone as then I have to be super careful and its tiring, but with you no one would question me.” Jungkook chirped and pulled Taehyung inside the library.

“Ohh Jungkook dear..” an old lady greeted from behind a small desk, by the scent Taehyung can tell she is an alpha. She was probably in her late 70s as she approached them with a smile on her face.

“Hello Amelia, how are you today?” Jungkook asked as the lady kissed his both cheeks as a greeting. “As beautiful as always, but it’s been a while since I saw you.” she replied and that’s when she noticed Taehyung behind Jungkook.

She fixed her glasses and looked Taehyung from head to toe, “And who would be this gentleman?” Amelia asked, eyes twinkling mischievously.

She turned and gave a sly smile to Jungkook, “Your boyfriend?” her voice carried a teasing tone, Taehyung's eyes widened while Jungkook just sighed.

“Not every alpha is my boyfriend, Amelia.” Jungkook said, his voice flat. “Ohh come on, he is not that bad.” Amelia said and looked at Taehyung.

“You tell me, isn’t my Jungkookie pretty?” she asked, Taehyung's face turned red, “Amelia… he is my cousin,” Jungkook hissed. Amelia pouted, “Ohh dang, that’s sad, you both could have made the cutest couple, anyway, are you meeting Hoseok?” Amelia wiggled her eyebrows at Jungkook who groaned.

“For the love of God, he is my friend, Amelia.” Jungkook cleared and started pulling Taehyung inside, “How are you going to find someone if you keep friendzoning all the alphas dear.” Jungkook heard her tired voice, but he ignored it and went to the last aisle of the towering shelves.

Now Taehyung's mood was sour, he glared at the women and followed Jungkook, “Let’s sit here, hyung will be here.” Jungkook said and sat on a table.

They both sat down and Jungkook supported his cheek on his palm and looked at Taehyung. “So?” he asked.

“So what?” Taehyung leaned forward, whispering. “Where were you going alone?” he asked, Taehyung sighed.

“I don’t know, anywhere.” he replied, and stood up, pulling out a book from the shelf. “You tell me who she is?” he asked.

“Don’t avoid the topic hyung, I know you are not happy with the alliance—”

“Then why are you asking?” Taehyung asked, eyes hard. “Because Hana is my friend hyung, and I don’t want her to be hurt.” Jungkook said as if it was obvious, and maybe it was.

“I am your cousin, shouldn’t you be more concerned about me?” Taehyung asked, hurt clearly visible in his tone.

Jungkook looked at Taehyung for a while and nodded his head, “You are right, but I have known her my whole life, and you—”

“Then know me now..” Taehyung said abruptly, Jungkook's face paled, “I mean, I know we haven’t spent much time together but now we can, I am here, get to know me.” Taehyung covered up his words and licked his lips nervously.

Jungkook sighed and nodded his head, “You are right. But you should give a chance to her, she is a nice girl.” Jungkook wrapped up his words with the sentence.

He just doesn't want any conflict in the house, because he knows he and his family would be the most affected by any disturbance in the house.

He knows Taehyung doesn’t want to marry Hana, but he also knows Taehyung has no choice, he knows his abeoji more than Taehyung knows his father.

He will get what he wants by hook or by crook, he just wants to make sure that at least Taehyung is happy in it. He doesn’t know what’s his reason for the rejection and he doesn’t think Taehyung will tell him.

They sat in complete silence, the faint shuffling of pages from around them can be heard faintly. Jungkook looked at Taehyung who was now immersed in whatever book he has pulled out of the shelf.

His brows sticking together, giving him a serious look, Jungkook’s eyes wandered to the mole below his left eye, following along to the mole on his cheek and then on the lips.

He knows Taheyung is handsome, but he noticed these moles today, the whole library was glowing with soft lights of the lanterns hanging on every shelf.

The sky was totally dark now, the faint glow of the lantern illuminating every single feature of Taehyung. From his clean shaved jaw to his perfect lips, nose and then the most unique feature. Impaired eyes.

“Are you and Taehyung—”

He flinched at the thought, hitting his knees on the table. Taehyung looked up abruptly, “What happened?” he asked, keeping the book on the table.

Jungkook just gave him a strained smile, and rubbed his knee. “Umm nothing just..” he trailed off, mind still on his thoughts.

His mind shot circuited, why the hell is he thinking about hobi’s word. Ohh Hobi hyung.. I will kill you.

He blinked his eyes rapidly, heart thumping loudly in his chest, he licked his lips, trying to get rid of the sinful thought. It’s a sin to think about your own damn cousin like this, no matter how handsome he is.

And this is the second time Jungkook's mind had this thought. He blamed it on Hoseok, for uttering nonsense, it was because of him he had this thought in the first place.

“Jungkook, are you sure you are okay?” Taehyung asked again, Jungkook nodded his head, feeling the pain in his knees going down.

“Yeah.. yeah I am fine.” he smiled and Taehyung nodded, looking out of the big window. “Where is your friend?” he asked.

Jungkook looked at the wall clock and indeed it’s late. “I don’t know, he said he will be here. It’s already half an hour.” Jungkook kept his head on the table.

“Maybe try finding the book in the library, it’s not like there is only one copy.” Taehyung suggested standing up.

Jungkook shook his head and motioned him to sit down, “I already have the book, just needed the notes and Hobi hyung to teach me in summary.” he said and stood up as well.

“I think he won’t come, let’s go. It will rain soon.” Jungkook suggested, “I can teach you.” Taehyung offered making Jungkook halt in his steps.

“Huh?”

“I said I can teach you.” Taehyung repeated the offer again, “You can?” Jungkook asked, eyes sparkling, and Taehyung swore he can look into his eyes all day.

“That’s.. that’s brilliant.” Jungkook exclaimed, “But what about notes?” he asked, “Notes?” Taehyung looked at him confused, “We can make it.”

“No, you don’t understand hyung, the notes he gave me is of the lectures he attends at school, that’s what come in exams as well.” Jungkook explained, sitting down on the chair and gazed out of the window.

“You are giving 12th from Seoul Science High School?” Jungkook nodded his head, “Hosoek hyung’s father is the owner of the school, so he will let me just give my 12th exam from his school, but the main exam branch is asking for my ID.” Jungkook explained.

He looked at Taehyung and saw him looking at him weirdly, he chuckled and rubbed his palm on his thighs. “Are you pitying me, hyung?” Jungkook asked.

Taehyung's eyes held a different look which made Jungkook nervous, he licked his lips and snapped his finger. Taehyung didn’t say anything but let a small smile break on his face.

“I am not pitying you Jungkook, I have no reason to. I am just shocked by your courage.” Taehyung stated, Jungkook can hear admiration in his voice, and it’s the first time someone from his family appreciated his love for medicine.

He can feel his eyes stinging but he blinked quickly to not let the moisture drip out of his eyes.

One lighting struck the earth making the room glow brilliantly, Jungkook flinched a little as thunder rumbled through the sky. The rain followed just as quickly, soaking the earth at once, many people started rushing to their homes. The rain was the strongest today.

Taehyung cursed lightly but Jungkook didn’t pay any attention to him and kept looking out of the window. That was when Amelia came towards them.

“Hoseok didn’t come?” she asked, followed by a cough. Jungkook looked at her and pulled out a chair for her but she denied, “I think he must be busy.” Jungkook replied, Amelia nodded her head and looked at Taehyung.

“So what do you do?” she asked, “Ahh.. me?” Taehyung asked, surprised. “I am in the defence army of Korea." he told her, her eyes widened in admiration.

“Really? My husband was also in the defence army, you must know him.” she chirped, Taehyung smiled curiously, “Really? What was his name?” he asked.

Jungkook was just observing their talks, suddenly not in the mood to talk, he was just thinking about the look Taehyung was giving him, he hates when someone pity him, that’s why he never even let Hosoek’s father do any extra favor to him.

“Lee Woobin.” She replied, “He is a martyr.” She continued, her eyes showing proudness as well as the longing. “Lee Woobin? Chief of the defence army in 1950?” Taehyung asked, eyes as big as a soccer ball.

Amelia nodded her head, “Yes, he is—was my husband.” Her voice strained, eyes glassy as if she was reminiscing the old moments.

“It’s alright.” Jungkook mumbled slowly, Amelia shook her head, “I am not sad, it’s the life of every army officer.”

“Indeed, every army officer knows what will be their end.” Taehyung agreed. Jungkook looked at Taehyung, “You guys wait, I will bring some tea for you, I don’t think the rain is going to stop anytime soon.” Amelia said and excused herself.

“It doesn’t scare you?” Jungkook asked, Taehyung stood up and went towards the window, leaning against it. “What?” he asked.

“That—you aren’t certain about your life, and the current situation, so many attacks were happening on our country, doesn’t it scare you that you will—” Jungkook didn’t finish his sentence.

“That, I will die?” Taehyung chuckled, and faced the window. “When I chose this career path for myself I was aware of the danger, Jungkook. I joined the battalion when we were in the middle of the war, I was only 21 at that time, I saw many things, lose many people, now it is just like a chore, it doesn’t scare me as it did in the early days of my job.” Jungkook heard him chuckling.

“I am not scared of dying Jungkook, I am just scared of dying when I will finally find something to live for.” Taehyung said and it caught Jungkook’s attention.

“You have something which you live for?” Jungkook asked, surprise was evident in his voice, Taehyung looked at him and smiled, “Not right now.” he said and turned to the window again.

“That’s why you are not marrying Hana? Because then you will fall in love and then will be scared of dying?” Jungkook asked, his voice carrying a knowinging tone as if he solved the world's hardest puzzle.

Taehyung’s laugh echoed in the empty library, as he turned to look at Jungkook who was now furrowing his brows, “How did you even come up with something like that?” he asked, the amusement was still present in his tone.

Jungkook crossed his arms on his chest and pouted, “Don’t laugh hyung.” he mumbled, but Taehyung just kept on laughing.

He came and sat in front of Jungkook who turned his head to the other side, clearly indicating that he was upset.

“Okay.. I am not laughing, yeah..” Taehyung said and chuckled when Jungkook glared at him, “See you are laughing again.” Jungkook pointed out. Taehyung did a sign of zipping his mouth which made Jungkook break out of the role.

“Where is Amelia?” Jungkook asked, looking towards the door, he wanted tea. Amelia makes amazing tea, “Wait I will go and see.” Taehyung said and before Jungkook could deny, he went out.

Taehyung looked around himself and saw a small room from where little smoke was coming out. He made his way towards it and saw Amelia sitting on a rocking chair having a cup of tea.

He knocked on the door making Amelia look up, he can see her face lighting up. She was about to stand up but Taehyung refused, “Its okay.” he said and entered inside.

“Umm Jungkook was waiting for the tea.” he mumbled slowly, not knowing if it was a good idea to come here at all?

Amelia smiled and nodded her head, “Ofc he was.” she chuckled, “But I wanted to give time to both of you.” she mumbled and sipped her tea.

“But why?” he asked, confusion lacing his voice. Amelia just gave him a knowing smile and again sipped her tea.

“I can read your eyes, dear.” she said simply, making Taehyung more confused. “I can see what you don’t say.” she said, now Taehyung was having an idea of her thoughts.

“The.. tea?” he asked, lowering his gaze, Amelia nodded her head and Taehyung was quick to his feet to strain the tea leaves and poured two cups of it.

He took a tray from the shelf and kept the cups on it carefully and started taking it out when Amelia’s voice stopped him in his tracks, “Don’t be late in taking what you want dear, fate is a cruel thing.” Her voice, soft and calm left a storm in Taehyung’s heart.
